I am delighted to say the Cedar House Support Group which helps
support women with postnatal depression, has raised over £10,000 during a
fantastic fundraising evening at The Olive Tree, Sutton Green, on 24th June.
Nearly 150 people came to the hog roast barbecue evening
and helped raise money through an action packed auction and raffle. Prizes up
for grabs
included a week in the South of France, a Wii, a pair of diamond and
pearl earrings, signed Harlequins and England rugby shirts, a ride in a hot
air
balloon and many more.
The charity which has been running since 2004, provides
weekly support groups in Surrey to women suffering from postnatal depression,
an illness that is often secretive and very isolating. The statistics for the
illness show that it can create misery and despair not just for the person
experiencing postnatal depression but for the whole family.
Liz Wise, the director of counselling for the Cedar House
Support Group, said: “The evening was a phenomenal success, I am overwhelmed by
the kindness and fantastic generosity of local businesses, friends, colleagues
and those attending the evening to support us. I too suffered this horrendous
illness with the birth of my children over 20 years ago and it was truly the
worst experience of my life. Since then, I have been determined to help others
through counselling and running the support groups. The money raised will help
us to continue our work and expand our services to help even more women and
families affected by this illness.”
Again a really big
thank you to all the local businesses and individuals who donated prizes and
their time to make this such an amazing event which will truly change lives.
